Balloon launch update:  2 balloons have been found following our balloon launch on Monday. The first was a pink balloon which was found by a lady in Little Gringley.  The second balloon was found by a gentleman on his farm nearly 40

miles away in Immingham near Hull!  This balloon was released by Xander.

To celebrate the end of our topic and a fantastic half term we are having a balloon launch on Monday 17th October at 10am. Please join us to celebrate our 'Splendid Skies'.

This week we watched a short film called 'Bubbles'. We then used our imaginations to write a story about a fantasy world. We put lots of adjectives in order to make our writing more descriptive.

Henri P - Henri went back in time, in his bubble, to the Great Fire of London. He popped lots of bubbles above the fire, which stopped the fire from burning Downing Street.

Harry's bubble took him to Tractor Land. Green frogs drove the blue tractors around the land until Harry chased them back to their ponds.

Jessica went to Bubble Land and met lots of noisy children. She put each child in a bubble which made her fantasy world much quieter.

Gamston Airport Trip 21st September 2016

We had a lovely trip to Gamston Airport last week. We were invited into the Pilots Lounge where we observed aeroplanes and helicopters taking off and landing. Charles, the Airport Manager, explained the function of the windsocks and how the pilots use them to assist in taking off. We also learnt about how much wind needs to be underneath the aeroplane before it can take off.

We watched a demonstration from the airport fire crew, they even squirted water at us from their hoses. All of the children got the chance to sit in the fire engine and imagine they were real firefighters.

To round off our visit we allowed to go into the control tower and listen to Steve, the Air Traffic Controller, speak to the aeroplanes in the sky.

Welcome to Nightingale Class!

We are Year 1 and Year 2 children.

This half-term our topic is 'Splendid Skies'.

Imagine floating high above land and sea on a bed of clouds, silently sweeping by on a billowing breeze.

In English we will be looking at 'Cloudland' by John Burningham.  Our English work will link directly to our topic as we will be exploring a range of different forms of writing. We will be planning and re-writing stories, using our imaginations to write solutions to problems in the story, producing diary entries, writing postcards and creating magic spells.

On Wednesday 21st of September we will be having a class trip to Gamston Airport. Details to follow.

During our Maths learning we will be covering place value, number bonds, money and time.

PE kits will need to be brought in every Monday and left at school throughout the week. Spellings and homework will be sent home every Friday.  Spellings will be tested on Friday Mornings and homework will need to be handed in on a Friday too.  Year 2 children will also be learning their times tables ( tested on a Friday) as this is a National Curriculum expectation.

Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar will be taught during our English lessons.  We will continue to use Read, Write Inc as our strategy to teach phonics and reading in the afternoons.  Children's reading books can be changed by the children using the baskets in the classroom.  These can be changed as and when required.

Thank you,

Mrs Greaves
