Hello and welcome to Hillary Class, we are really looking forward to getting to know you and your child as their learning journey begins at Gamston Primary School. As the Class teacher I will be available before and after School if you have any questions or queries, Mrs Morris is our wonderful full time Nursery Nurse working alongside us too.

Marvellous Mini Beasts

In Hillary Class we follow the "Development Matters" document, the children's learning experiences are planned to enable them to develop and achieve in the early learning areas through play and investigative learning experiences. The EYFS curriculum is planned for the inside and the outside classrooms. The curriculum is planned in a cross curricular way to enable all aspects of the child's development. The characteristics of effective learning are viewed as an integral part of all areas of learning and are reflected in our observations of the children.
We have been learning about the Christian celebration of Epiphany and why this is an important and special time in the Christian calendar. The children decorated their own King craft to celebrate Epiphany.
Our amazing nativity stars
We were so proud of all of the amazing children in Hillary Class with their excellent performance of "Cock O Doodle Christmas." A huge thank you to the parents for their beautiful costumes and for your support in coming to watch the nativity too.
Be Happy, Be Safe Day
Today in Hillary Class we took part in our Be Happy, Be Safe Day. The children thought about what makes them happy from smelling fresh flowers to having Mummy cuddles and even hearing their budgies squawking! Also we took part in some calming mindfulness yoga and then we learnt about road safety. The children learnt about how we need to cross the roads safely and why we need to wear reflective clothes.
Today in Hillary Class we have been thinking about the build up to Christmas. We learnt about what an advent wreath is and why it is lit on the Sunday's leading up to Christmas Day, what the candles symbolise and why advent is a very important time in the Christian Calendar.
Today we had a lovely time with the children coming from Bannister Class for another shared reading session. We love sharing stories and listening to them too. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to talk about our favourite books and story characters too.
For our Autumn topic we have been really enjoying listening to the owl babies story and learning all about nocturnal animals. We made some super owl models in our art sessions and in PE we watched some videos of owls flying and swooping and then pretended to be owls ourselves.
Celebrating BBC Children in Need
We had a great day in Hillary Class celebrating Children in Need. The children learnt about why we celebrate Children In Need and why it is so important to help others. We took part in a Pudsey Yoga session and Pudsey PE too. Then we decorated some Pudsey bears too and wore non uniform.
Remembrance Day 2019
Today the children learnt about the importance of remembering the fallen soldiers and those soldiers and animals that fought and are still fighting in the war. We made a Poppy garden and the children built cenotaphs in the construction area.
Fantastic Firework Day
The children really enjoyed learning about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder plot. We decorated firework biscuits and chocolate sparklers and also made firework pictures and rockets.
Pet visitors in Hillary Class
We just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who has brought their pets to visit Hillary Class. Thank you to Mrs Pashley for bringing her tortoise Fred in (Miss Weselby wanted to take him home!) Thank you to Kerry, Eve's Mummy and Ellie and Henry's Mummy for bringing their beautiful dogs Rupert, Winnie and Elsa in. Thank you to Georgia's Mummy for bringing Peanut the rabbit in and to Lucas's Grandma for bringing the guinea pigs and to Gracie May's Daddy in with Lemmy the snake. Finally thank you to Mr Abbot for bringing his chickens in to visit us.
Visits from kittens
A huge thank you to Mrs Dobbin for bringing her adorable kittens into visit Hillary Class. Tom and Tiger were wonderful visitors and the children asked some superb questions about how to care for kittens.
Fun in the sun!
We have had a super couple of days in Hillary Class enjoying being outdoors. We have been working on our physical development skills and also enjoying stories in the sunshine.
Getting to know each other
We have been busy in Hillary Class getting to know each other and exploring our new classroom. It has been lovely to get to know all of our new friends in Hillary Class.
Enjoying our outdoor area
We wanted to share some photographs of the super exploring and learning the children in Hillary do in our outdoors area.
The children in Hillary class love spending time in the construction area and we think their constructions are absolutely amazing. Definitely some future builders here!
Today in Hillary Class the children had a super afternoon investigating how to make bubbles and loved blowing them in the sunshine.
Rainbow Fish retelling
For our seaside topic we have been reading The Rainbow Fish. Today Fyfe and Sam re told the story and our fantastic actors acted out the story, we love their facial expressions!
This afternoon in Hillary Class the children planted some lovely summer plants to brighten up our outdoor area. They named the various parts of the plants and spoke about what the plants would need to survive.

Learning outside is a very important part of our of teaching in Hillary Class. Take a look at the wonderful investigating and exploring that takes place in our outdoor classroom.
For our spring topic the children have created some wonderful homes. I wonder which mini beasts we will find living in these?
Look at the amazing, independent constructions that the children in Hillary class have created. Lots of thought and careful planning has gone into these.
Look at the wonderful ponds that the children in Hillary Class have created using construction materials and loose parts. These were created as part of our Spring topic, the children learnt about the life cycle of a frog and the varying stages it goes through they also produced some fantastic writing.
A very big thank you to Fyfe's Mummy for bringing in some cute chicks for the children in Hillary Class to spend time with. The children had a fantastic time and loved holding and stroking the chicks.
Celebrating St George's Day
The children in Hillary Class learnt all about why we celebrate St George's Day and they produced some super flags, dragons and knights.
Spring Chicks and Yummy Treats
Look at the wonderful spring chicks that the children in Hillary Class have created for their spring topic and the delicious cakes too.
A very big thank you to the PFA for very kindly buying us a super Gruffalo and Handa's Surprise puppet set, the children in Hillary Class have loved acting out the story and been incredibly creative with their acting skills!
Red Nose Day
Hillary Class had a super day celebrating Comic Relief.
World Book Day
Look at how the fantastic children in Hillary Class all dressed up for World Book Day. Excellent costumes and the children were so knowledgeable about their book character, we are so proud of the fantastic writing that they have produced.
Great Wall of China
This afternoon for our China topic the children learnt some fantastic facts about The Great Wall of China and used construction materials to build their own Great Walls.
Today in Hillary Class we looked at the traditional Chinese dress and painted and decorated some lovely Chinese dolls.
What a wonderful day the children had on Friday celebrating the China Day. We produced some super dragon art work, read some non fiction books about China and Chinese New Year, tried some Chinese food and performed a dragon dance in the hall too. A very big Thank you to Benny's Mummy for making such a superb dragon for us to dance with.
