Welcome to Hillary Class
Be the Best that you can Be
Hello and a very big welcome to Hillary Class. We look forward to getting to know you and your child over the year as their learning begins. As the class teacher I will be available before and after school if you have any questions or queries. The other adults working in the class will be Mrs Morris who is our full time Teaching Assistant and Ms Cox who is also a TA will be working alongside us too. Every Thursday morning Mrs Burdell will be covering Hillary Class with the full support of Mrs Morris. Miss Weselby
We will very soon be giving all of the children in Hillary Class a reading book and reading diary, also a story book for you to share with your child at home. In Hillary Class we listen to the children read at least twice a week, therefore your child will need their reading books and reading diaries with them at school every day. Please ensure that you listen to your child read at least three times a week at home to ensure that your child becomes familiar with their reading books and becomes a confident reader.
The children will also need their PE kits with them all week, they will need to bring them to school on a Monday and take them home again on a Friday. Please ensure that all items of clothing are labelled as we can not take responsibility for lost property.
We also encourage children to drink water throughout the day, please feel free to send your child in with a water bottle and a pair of wellingtons too for our outdoor activities.
Thank you Miss Weselby

Over the past few days in Hillary class we have been talking about healthy eating. The children thought about what it means to be healthy and how they keep healthy. We also sorted foods that we though we could eat all of the time and those that we eat in moderation. On Friday we made some healthy packed lunches too.
As part of our Chinese New Year topic today we investigated what happens to noodles when we put them in water. We all made predictions and enjoyed looking at how they changed.

Our new topic for the spring half term is going to be Sue Hendra books. We are starting off reading Norman the slug with the silly shell and then we will read Barry the fish with fingers. This topic will provide lots of opportunities for the children to concentrate on their writing skills. We will also be creating some beautiful pieces of art work including producing a display about Norman and his silly shell! Our role play area is set up as a stage and this is providing lots of wonderful opportunities for the children to put their own plays and shows together and have fun getting dressed up.

Myself and Mrs Morris are always very excited when we are planning and thinking about our new topics. Please see our Curriculum Overview for 2016-2017 to see the yearly overview of topics. Our first topic in Hillary Class will be "Magical Me" this is a super first topic to support the children in getting to know each other, the classroom and the staff that work in Hillary Class, it provides a chance to discuss their families and likes and dislikes. It also allows us to celebrate the diversity of families and children within our class and to ensure each individual child feels part of the team in Hillary Class.
